A level evolves through passing and failing

This project was created for a game jam with the theme Evolution, and the limitation is Failure is progress.
This 2D platformer features a unique design: every time the player wins, more traps are added to the level, and each time the player fails, traps are removed. Thus, the level itself evolves. The game challenges the ideas of progress and mastery. Rather than rewarding perfection, it reshapes the path forward through trial and error.
Three tracks were composed to reflect the evolving nature of the level. Each track matches a different stage of the difficulty, transitioning seamlessly as the level changes. The music reflects the player's emotional journey. It ranges from calm learning to rising pressure to relentless tension.
This is the theme for the easiest version of the level.
This piece sets the tone for the beginning of the game. It fosters a sense of discovery and allows for mistakes and retries without causing tension.
This track plays as the difficulty increases and more traps are introduced.
The track maintains forward motion and subtle pressure. It’s neither fully calm nor dramatic. But rides the edge between tension and clarity.
This is the most intense stage theme.
Without altering the tempo or melodic core, this piece amplifies the density and intensity of the sound. Bitcrushed textures, breakbeats, and sharp stabs create an atmosphere of relentless forward motion where each mistake could be your last.
